Rafael Nadal will take on Matteo Berrettini in the semi-finals of the US Open.
Rafael Nadal has praised the serving of Matteo Berrettini, after firing his way into the US Open semi-finals.
The Spaniard was sublime against Diego Schwartzman on Wednesday night, defeating the Argentine in straight sets.
Nadal started ferociously, winning the first set 6-4, and he never let up from there.
With the win, Nadal secured his place in the final four of the competition, and will feel confident of his chances of picking up his fourth title at Flushing Meadows.
Standing in his way on Friday will be Italian Berrettini, who beat Gael Monfils in five sets on Wednesday to get to his first major semi-final.
Speaking about the match, Nadal was highly complimentary of his opponent, and revealed his plans to prepare.
"I saw him play," Nadal said. "He's hitting huge.
"Big, big serves. Big forehands and moving well and is super confident.
"He's a player that is making big steps forward every weeks so it's going to be another big challenge.
"But this match gives me some confidence.
"I needed two matches like against Cilic and today (Wednesday) again.
"Both victories are so important for me and now is the moment to keep going.
"Tomorrow day off, practice a little bit, and I just hope to be 100 per cent for my semi-final because I'm going to need it."
