Juventus Name Former Italy Boss Luciano Spalletti as New Manager

Juventus have confirmed the appointment of former Italy coach Luciano Spalletti as their new manager, with a contract running until the end of the current season.

The 66-year-old tactician takes over from Igor Tudor, who was dismissed following the team’s 2-1 loss to Lazio last Sunday. Tudor, who arrived in March to replace Thiago Motta, departed after a disappointing seven-game winless streak.

Spalletti brings a wealth of experience, having guided Napoli to their historic Serie A triumph in the 2022–23 season before taking charge of the Italian national team. Under his leadership, Italy secured qualification for Euro 2024, though they were eliminated by Switzerland in the round of 16.

However, his tenure with the Azzurri ended in June after a World Cup qualifying defeat to Norway left Italy’s chances of reaching the next World Cup in serious jeopardy.

Throughout his managerial career, Spalletti has also coached Inter Milan, AS Roma, and Udinese, and he achieved international success with Zenit St Petersburg, winning the Russian Premier League twice.

Before Spalletti’s appointment, Massimo Brambilla served as interim coach, leading Juventus to a 3-1 victory over Udinese on Wednesday. The result lifted the Turin giants to seventh place in Serie A, six points adrift of leaders Napoli after nine matches.

In European competition, Juventus currently sit 25th in the Champions League league phase, having failed to win any of their first three games, with two draws and one defeat.
