Manchester United 's transfer plans have been dealt a setback with Bayern Munich sealing a two-year loan for transfer target James Rodriguez.

Both James and Real have been desperate to do a deal this summer due to the Colombian star falling out of favour to such an extent that he was left out of their Champions League final squad, and the 25-year-old has been offered around Europe.

All of Bayern, United, Chelsea and Internazionale have been in talks about a potential signing at some stage, but none were willing to go close to the £70m asking price Bernabeu president Florentino Perez is looking for.
