Club Legend Blames Klopp on Liverpool's Draw

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes
sealing the transfer of Virgil van Dijk won’t
be enough to sort out the Reds’ defence as
the issues there are down to manager
Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseyside giants got off to a nightmare start this season as they drew 3-3 with Watford in their opening game at Vicarage Road this afternoon.

Liverpool’s sloppy marking saw them concede twice from set pieces against the
Hornets, and Carragher has laid the blame at Klopp’s poor record in that department since he took over.

‘It’s a down to the manager,’ Carragher told
Sky Sports after the game.
‘(Liverpool’s) set-pieces are the worst in the
league. You see the same thing year in, year
out. It’s not rocket science, set-pieces and
counter-attacks.

‘One man won’t change Liverpool’s defence.
On average, Liverpool concede almost fifty
games a season.’

Liverpool have been strongly linked all
summer with a move for £60million-rated
Southampton defender Van Dijk, but have so far failed to bring him in.

Carragher is clearly sceptical if the
investment would be worth it, with Klopp
under increasing pressure to improve things
at Anfield after poor defending cost them a
serious title challenge last season.
