Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan may be heading to Liverpool, but who is he? Alison Bender discusses the Estonian
.
Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan is set to undergo a medical on
Tuesday ahead of his move to Liverpool, a club source told reporters.
Klavan is expected on Merseyside to complete his €5 million transfer to the Reds.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring in the Estonia
international to provide cover in the heart of the defence following injuries to Mamadou Sakho and promising youngster Joe Gomez.
The 30-year-old has made over 100 caps for his country and spent four
years in the Bundesliga after joining from AZ Alkmaar in 2012.
The Liverpool Echo
reports that Klavan is unlikely to feature in Wednesday's friendly with
Huddersfield Town but could join the side on their preseason tour to
the United States.
Klavan came up against Liverpool in the Europa League last season, as the centre-back featured in both legs of round-of-32 tie.
He would become Liverpool's fifth signing of the summer, following
Marko Grujic, Loris Karius, Sadio Mane and Joel Matip through the door
at Anfield.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been given a fitness boost after scans revealed Matip suffered no serious damage on his ankle in the 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
