Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan on
Sunday defeated Lagos side, MFM FC, 1-0 at the Agege Stadium to secure
their first away win of the season in one of the Week 23 matches of the
Nigeria Professional Football League.
It was the second win for the Ibadan
side over the newly-promoted MFM as they ended MFM’s unbeaten run with a
3-1 victory in Ibadan at the start of the season. But the match was
marked by crowd trouble as fans invaded the pitch in attempt to beat up
match officials. The fans thronged the pitch to protest the win, which
they said was fraudulent.
The lone goal which was scored Ebitimi Agogu, gave 3SC the needed three points as they battle relegation from the league.
According to the League Management
Company’s Twitter handle, the match was an end to end affair for most of
the game as both sides sought the winning goal.
In order matches, Kano Pillars, got
three red cards as they were beaten 3-1 by Wikki Tourists in Bauchi.
Jamiu Alimi was sent off in the 48th minute before Rabiu Shehu and
Tijjani Adamu also got the marching orders in the 90th minute.
Pillars took the lead in the 30th minute
through Emmanuel Edmund but Wikki got the equaliser through Idris Guda.
Abubakar Lawal and Ibrahim Alhassan ensured the points for the hosts.
Wikki now top the table with 41 points.
Also, Rivers United lost their footing
in the chase for the top spot after they were beaten 2-0 at IfeanyiUbah.
Ismaila Gata, who is the league’s current highest goalscorer, was on
the score sheet for IfeanyiUbah.
Abia Warriors beat Heartland 1-0 while
El Kanemi lost 2-0 to Akwa United and Tornadoes and Rangers played 1-1.
The match between Warri Wolves and Plateau United was postponed till
Monday due to the heavy rainfall which disrupted the match.
