Tottenham transfer news: Spurs confident over new Dele Alli contract after breakthrough in talks

Tottenham Hotspur are confident of soon tying England midfielder Dele Alli to a new contract at the club.
Spurs have been working hard to secure the futures of their most important personnel, after Mauricio Pochettino, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela signed new long-term deals in May, June and July respectively.

Now there has been a breakthrough in negotiations with 22-year-old Alli too, with both sides confident of a swift agreement.

Alli still has almost four years left on the last contract he signed in September 2016, which lasts until the end of the 2021-22 season. But there has been speculation over his future since then and Tottenham are keen to secure his long term future at the new White Hart Lane, rather than letting him to within two or three years of his deal expiring.
After a difficult summer, in which Spurs failed to sign a single player, the priority now is to keep this group together to go into the new stadium.

Alli captained Spurs on Wednesday night at the home of his first club, MK Dons, scoring two crucial penalties as his team reached the next round of the Carabao Cup.
This is his fourth season at Tottenham and he has already won PFA Young player of the year twice, as well as featuring regularly for England at the World Cup this summer.
