Jose Gimenez [right] in action for Atletico Madrid
Barcelona are the latest club credited with an interest in signing Jose Gimenez.
The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising defenders in world football since joining Atletico Madrid from Danubio in his native Uruguay in 2013.
He has already racked up 47 La Liga appearances for Atletico, and has attracted the interest of both Chelsea and Manchester City.
Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid – who were linked with a staggering £51m bid – are also keeping close tabs on his situation.
And now Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo has revealed that yet another European heavyweight - Barca - are ready to show their hand and could lodge a formal bid this summer.
Gimenez still has two years left on his current contract and Atletico, who paid just £750,000 to land him, will only let him leave should they receive a mega-money offer.
