Virat Kohli showed his aggressive side of the game once again, this time towards an umpire in the all-important clash against the Gujarat Lions in the IPL 2016 qualifier. Chasing 159, the Royal Challengers Bangalore lost both
of their openers early and the onus on getting the team across the
finish line fell on the shoulders of AB de Villiers.
The South
Africa and Stuart Binny were at the crease and looked set to take
Bangalore into the final with Binny doing well with the bat.
The
Indian batsman started by smashing Shadab Jakati for eighteen runs in
the ninth over but in the tenth over a controversial moment took place.
The first three balls of the over went without incident but in the
fourth delivery, Binny took a big swing and missed with the bat.

the ninth over but in the tenth over a controversial moment took place.
The first three balls of the over went without incident but in the
fourth delivery, Binny took a big swing and missed with the bat.
The ball hit Binny’s pad and even though it was high, the umpire gave
him out. Binny’s shot selection might have been poor but he was
extremely disappointed with the decision. RCB’s captain, Virat Kohli too
wasn’t pleased with what had transpired and charged at the fourth
umpire to voice his displeasure at the decision.
On closer
inspection, it was indeed an error by the umpire Anil Chaudhary. Replays
confirmed that the ball had hit Binny’s pad just outside off. The
umpire did get the decision wrong and it was easy to understand why the
players were upset since this clash had a lot riding on it.
Virat
Kohli is known for his intensity and aggression while playing but he has
crossed the line on a number of times in his career. In this IPL, Kohli
has also been fined for a slow over-rate and during the game he showed
his anger by throwing the ball to the ground after taking a catch.
RCB pull through in the end
The
Royal Challengers Bangalore kept their cool even after the decision and
made it through to the final of the 2016 tournament thanks to AB de
Villiers’ heroics. The South African played an impressive knock of 79
from just 47 balls.
He was ably supported by Iqbal Abdulla who
scored 33 runs from just 25 balls. Virat Kohli might have failed in the
game but he will be looking to win the IPL title for the first time for
Bangalore. Kohli is also the leading run-scorer in the tournament with
919 runs in just 15 games.
